Tips for saving up
I used to be a serious serial shopper addicted, going in a shop, I always wanted to go out with something new in a little plastic bag. I don’t know what changed, maybe my vision of mass consommation or the fact I ran out of money, but I tried to change my behavior toward money. Here are a few tips about how I made this happen, and my goals.
- First I wanted to save up for holidays, so everytime there were a few bucks in my wallet that I didn’t need at the moment, I put it in a box. I always kept a little bit of money, like 10 or 20 bucks just not to be frustrated. I started really slowly, only adding a few bucks each two weeks, but since I started this, I managed to go and visit Tokyo for two weeks, and I didn’t give up, today my box is full with 1500 pretty $ !
- I also saved up for big investments like : paying taxes to the state, moving to a flat, buying furnitures or hi-tech. I mostly put big money each time someone gave me money as a gift. I saved up 1000$ during a year and still haven’t used one penny. Should fill it up more often, though.
- I saved up for driving courses and stuff because where I live it’s really expensive to learn how to drive ; between all the tests ( theory, driving, first steps for saving life, danger courses) and the driving sessions with a teacher (8 times min.) it’s easy to pay something like 2000$. Would rather go on holidays in Bora Bora but I started this and don’t wanna give up, I want my lisence!!
- And finally, not long ago, I started to save up a few bucks here and there, plus everytime I go in a shop, want to buy everything and go out without buying anything, I put 20$ in a box. So that’s like some kind of therapy ” okay I really wanted this jacket but it was 50$ and I don’t need a jacket”. This money will serve as pocket money for holidays, because I don’t need a jacket but it’s okay to WANT things, and it feels good to buy them but what’s important is to restrict yourself, not to frustrate yourself. Rather than buying this jacket what I really want is to take time on holidays somewhere I never been and let the restriction go. Because what’s not cool in life is to rip your ass off to go on holidays and have no money to enjoy your time there. So this is a simple way to save big money ;€
